Looks great in your hearth and Works for Burning Wood Logs or Coal
When measuring your fireplace to determine the proper grate size to use, you want to make sure that you have at least 3 inches of clearance between the walls of the fireplace and the grate itself. So you need 3 inches of clearance on the left, right, front and back to allow for proper air flow. You also want to make sure that you have clearance under the grate as well, and the legs of this unit are 3 1/2 inches tall, allowing for proper air flow under the grate.
Maintaining proper clearances around the fireplace grate is the best way to create an even burn in your fireplace. The more even of a burn the more heat you will be able to get out of each log that is put into the fire.
This heavy-duty grate has a lifetime guarantee by the factory. With the warranty, as long as you are using the grate indoors and burning only wood and/or coal, the fireplace grate is guaranteed not to burn out. It will withstand intense heat and everyday indoor usage.

Do I need to use a grate inside of my fireplace?
It is recommended to always use a properly sized fireplace grate inside of your unit. Using a fireplace grate allows for a better and more complete burn, which means you get more residual heat from each piece of firewood that you use. Using a fireplace grate also allows for better drafting and makes it easier to light your fire. Also using a fireplace grate helps to prolong the life of the floor of the fireplace unit.
What size fireplace grate do I need?
The best way to determine the size of grate you need is to measure the interior dimensions of your firebox. You will want to measure the width at the front opening, as well as the width at the back of the fireplace. Then you will want to measure from the back wall of the firebox out to the opening to determine the depth. Once you have the width and depth measurements you will want to subtract 6 inches from each measurement to determine the best size for your fireplace grate. It is recommended to maintain a 3 inch clearance around the grate to ensure proper air flow within the fireplace.

Why do fireplace grates burn out?
The most common reason fireplace grates burn out is due to the materials that are used during manufacturing the grates. A fireplace can produce intense heat and some materials are not suited to withstand intense heat for a prolonged period of time. If you are using a grate outdoors in a unit exposed to the elements, this can also cause a grate to breakdown quickly as well.
