    The first major campaign for women's suffrage in the U.S. was in 1867. Susan B. Anthony used the sunflower, Kansas' state flag, as a symbol for their cause. Soon after yellow flowers and ribbons became emblematic of the Women's Rights Movement. In 1916 Alice Paul modified the flag used by the British Suffragettes to represent the American Suffragettes with the colors gold, white and violet.
